Just as the Siu Ying Yi is a rare form of Southern Intellectual Fist (Hsing I Ch'uan or XingYi) that was modified by S. 5-Animal Shaolin, the Pow Chin Ch'uan is a rare form of Shantung (Shandong) style Hsing I Ch'uan reworked by Northern 5-Animal Shaolin. As such, it has elements of both styles and is consequently able to develop qualities in fighting not readily available in other forms.
